Pollution Report for Wellington Brook

Case reference EIR2024/00443

Published 28 March 2024

Request

I believe that a survey on the level of pollution in the Wellington Brook was conducted last year on behalf of Herefordshire Council. Due to my concern over this, and the impact on the local ecology I would be grateful for a copy of this report.

Whilst I have concern over pollution levels on the whole, for this request my main focus is the section running from the WWTW (STW) in Canon Pyon to the confluence of the two branches of Wellington Brook at Kinford. It is believed that the WWTW operated by Welsh Water is operating above its design capacity, with rather obvious consequences

A survey was carried out on behalf of Herefordshire Council by the Wye and Usk Foundation over January - March 2022.

A) The service area have advised that the query refers to the monitoring Wye and Usk Foundation undertook on Herefordshire Council's behalf of the output from DCWW Waste Water Treatment Works and as such it does not monitor the quality of the water itself but the output from the works and specifically the phosphate content rather than other pollutants.

We only collected limited data for a short period of time, 5 occurrences, as this site was not progressed.

Please see attached EIR2024 00443 Output from DCWW Waste Water Treatment Works spreadsheet which contains the limited data collected.
