FOI release

Turnpike Travellers Site, Pembridge

Case reference FOI2022/00930

Published 8 July 2022

Request

Regarding the proposed development at Turnpike Travellers Site, Pembridge, HR6 9J2 off southern Access Road. I feel that this is the correct place to ask for the records of how often the site has been sealed off with various obstacles denying access to the facilities that have clearly been installed by the council or their contractors.

It would be very important to know over the lifetime of the site from the original construction to date, the time that the facilities have been open.

Why does the site get sealed off?

Why isn't it being used now?

Response

I feel that this is the correct place to ask for the records of how often the site has been sealed off with various obstacles denying access to the facilities that have clearly been installed by the council or their contractors.

The site has had the concrete blocks placed at the entrance since 20 August 2021 in an effort to protect the site from unauthorised access, vandalism and fly tipping.

It would be very important to know over the lifetime of the site from the original construction to date, the time that the facilities have been open.

The site was constructed by Leominster District Council in the early 1980's and was then under the control of Herefordshire Council since 1998. No recorded information is held as to whether or not the site has previously been closed.

Why does the site get sealed off?

In 2021 various repairs and maintenance works were necessary, but residents of the site refused contractor access in order to carry out the necessary works. The decision was made to close the site in order that the works could be carried out without posing a health and safety risk to residents.

Why isn't it being used now?

The site requires refurbishment / repairs and the proposal is to complete these works alongside the extension of the site.
