Asbestos in schools

Request

Under the Freedom of Information Act can you tell me: -

How many schools in Herefordshire have asbestos on the site (please note for clarity: the number should include any school, maintained or otherwise, primary, middle or secondary, that is known to have an amount of asbestos within their grounds/in their buildings)

- Please also provide a list, naming each school

- Please also tell me if the council has a policy in place on the maintenance of asbestos within school sites

- Please tell me if there is a council budget for any maintenance of asbestos within school sites

Herefordshire Council does not hold this information. The information may be held by the schools themselves, who are public authorities in their own right under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. A list of schools in Herefordshire, with links to further information including their contact details, is available on the council's website. 31 schools are known to have asbestos.

Schools are responsible for managing asbestos in their own premises. The Council offer guidance to schools on the management of asbestos

The cost for any maintenance of asbestos, within school sites, is taken from the annual maintenance grant from the DfE.
