FOI release

Equal access to safe, affordable and sustainable energy across all communities

Case reference FOI2023/00368

Published 2 March 2023

Request

We are researching solutions that ensure equal access to safe, affordable and sustainable energy across all communities.

Specifically, we are looking at ways of distributing information to households on how to reduce energy consumption. This would include things like government grants such as the Home Upgrade Grant and ECO4.

1. What methods do you utilise to distribute information regarding home energy efficiency (such as grants or energy saving advice)? e.g. Letters, phone calls etc

2. Do you specifically target this at low-income households, or do you distribute this to every household in your area?

3. Would you be able to share any of the approximate annual costs involved in these distribution methods?

Response

We are researching solutions that ensure equal access to safe, affordable and sustainable energy across all communities.

Specifically, we are looking at ways of distributing information to households on how to reduce energy consumption. This would include things like government grants such as the Home Upgrade Grant and ECO4.

1. What methods do you utilise to distribute information regarding home energy efficiency (such as grants or energy saving advice)? e.g. Letters, phone calls etc

We have an energy advice service called Keep Herefordshire Warm provided by the third sector. They undertake marketing activities agreed with Herefordshire Council and can involve leaflets, events, social media, and letters. We have also promoted the Keep Herefordshire Warm Service via inserts of leaflets in council tax bills and via a quarterly council magazine delivered to all residents of Herefordshire.

2. Do you specifically target this at low-income households, or do you distribute this to every household in your area?

Most activity is targeted according to grant criteria such as off gas areas. However as outlined above Keep Herefordshire Warm was advertised widely via a quarterly magazine that is delivered to all householders.

3. Would you be able to share any of the approximate annual costs involved in these distribution methods?

Keep Herefordshire Warm has an annual marketing budget and use of targeted social media, leaflets and other approaches helps to keep costs down. There was a budget of £2,800 for financial year 2022/23.
