School admission distances 2023 to 2026 entry [SCC-FOI-055]
Case reference FOI2026/02207
Received 16 September 2026
Published 1 October 2026
Request
For each school for which Herefordshire Council is the admissions authority, and for each of the 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 entry years, where a place was allocated on national offer day using distance from home to school as the deciding criterion:
a. School name
b. School URN (Unique Reference Number)
c. Entry year
d. Phase, and the year group admitted to (for example Reception, or Year 7)
e. The last distance offered — the distance from home to school of the last
child offered a place under the distance criterion — in metres
f. The coordinates of the point at the school from which that distance was
measured, as latitude and longitude (WGS84), or as an Ordnance Survey easting
and northing
g. The method used to measure the distance — for example straight line
("as the crow flies"), or shortest available safe walking route
h. The Published Admission Number (PAN)
i. The number of first preference applications received
A spreadsheet or CSV export is completely acceptable, and preferable to a formatted document. I do not need a written narrative.
2. If you do not hold a coordinate
If you do not hold latitude and longitude for the measuring point, please instead tell me the convention used — for example the school gate, the main entrance, or the centroid of the school site — together with any address or description of the point you do hold. I am not asking you to create new information.
3. Academies, voluntary aided and foundation schools
Where a school within your area is its own admissions authority, please tell me:
a. which schools these are, and
b. what information of the kind above you hold for them, whether through the
coordinated admissions scheme or otherwise.
If you hold nothing for a school, saying so is a useful answer in itself.
4. If this exceeds the cost limit
If you believe this request would exceed the appropriate limit under section 12, I would be grateful if, under your section 16 duty to advise and assist, you would tell me which part causes the difficulty before refusing it. I am happy to narrow the request — for example to fewer years, to secondary schools only, or to community and voluntary controlled schools only — and would rather receive part of it than none.
If any of this information is already published, section 21 applies and a link to where it sits is a complete answer. That would be genuinely helpful.
5. Re-use
I intend to republish this information, attributed to Herefordshire Council. Please confirm whether it is made available for re-use under the Open Government Licence, or tell me which licence terms apply.
