Case reference FOI2025/01069

Request

Could you expand on the information requested regarding the 14 large planters going into primary schools.

To move them would require a large forklift and commercial transport as the ones used to move these planters reference the mayfair. So how much is this cost going to be and what schools will be receiving them? To put them into playgrounds will not only incur a substantial cost but deprive children of valuable play areas besides the cost of plants and soil etc along with who will be the person to water them?

Answer: The Service Area has advised the following:

All Primary Schools in Hereford City were written to, to ask if they want to rehome one or more of the 14 planters stored at Thorn Depot.

6 schools responded and, following access site inspections, it was agreed to move the 14 planters to 5 of these schools – St Pauls, St Thomas Cantilupe, Malbrook, Riverside and St Martins.

The planters will go with the established trees and any original planting.

Schools will then be responsible for watering and any other further maintenance.

The planters will enhance and add to the school facilities, providing quiet places for children to sit and read outside with an opportunity to learn about trees and plants which they’ll manage.

The approximate cost for moving these planters is £5,000 and these are due to be moved in the next two months.
