Bat licences and roost monitoring

Case reference EIR2022/00305

Published 6 April 2022

Request

Bat licences and roost monitoring timeframes - I was hoping you could provide me with any data you have that pertains to it. I am not focusing on a specific species, but I would need pre- and post-construction roost population details and ideally the type of mitigation used and original roost details. I will be focusing on data from between 2018 to present.

Response

Herefordshire Council does not hold this data. During construction and any post development monitoring of protected species licences (eg Bats, GCN, Dormice etc) is managed by Natural England's Species Licensing Team and all requirements are part of the licences that they issue. All works would normally be overseen by the ecologist "holding" the licence and as specified in the licence granted; and if post development monitoring is a requirement then the ecologist "holding" the licence will undertake the required surveys or assessments and report directly back to Natural England at such times as detailed in the Licence.

This protected species licence monitoring is not usually part of planning conditions as it is managed by a separate relevant competent authority.

For further information, it is advised that you contact the Natural England Protected Species Licencing Team. Their contact details in respect of development licences is: eps.mitigation@naturalengland.org.uk
