Case reference FOI2023/01897
Published 5 December 2023
Request
In relation to HCC acquisition of new electric busses for Hereford:
1) Were the vehicles purchased /leased based on cost of acquisition only?
2) Were councillors made aware they were made in China before agreeing to the purchase or lease?
3) Did the council research if any of the materials used in producing the vehicles originated in Russia (i.e. steel, coal, oil used in production)?
4) Did the council research if any of the battery components were from mines involved in child or slave labour, or if the graphite was natural or synthetic?
5) How much did the council save compared to buying or leasing UK-made busses (assuming UK companies quoted)?

I have been advised that Herefordshire County Council have not bought any electric buses and that the "Zipper" buses were purchased through funding received at Hereford City Council.
Herefordshire County Council have not been involved in this City Council-led project. Please refer your request to Hereford City Council: Contact Us - Hereford City Council
