Response

Please provide me with the following information under the Freedom of Information Act.

1) How many electric vehicle chargers have been installed in your council area, including on streets, motorways and car parks? If you could provide a breakdown over the past 5 years (preferably calendar year).

A) There are currently 6 standard (7kW) and 3 rapid (50kW) publically available dual charge points installed in council car parks across the county. There are currently no on-street chargers or motorway chargers installed.

The 6 standard chargers were installed in council car parks prior to 2019, and the 3 rapids were installed in 2020/21.

2) How many broken chargers have had to be fixed over the last 5 years and what has been the cost of this? If you could provide a breakdown over the past 5 years (preferably calendar year).

A) The council is not responsible for the repair, maintenance or replacement of any of the charge points in its car parks and therefore does not hold any information on the costs associated with repairs. We are also not advised of all breakdowns, especially when the repair can be carried out remotely by the charge point operator, so cannot give total figures for the number of breakdowns.

The charge point operator - Wenea - are responsible for all aspects relating to the installation and running of the charge points.

3) How many electric vehicle chargers do you plan to install in 2024?

A) Expansion of the network of charge points in council car parks is underway - final numbers of charge points to be installed is yet to be finalised but will more than double current provision within 2024.

We are also part of a pilot consortium of local authorities that will be working with charge point operators to install on-street charge points across the county. Final numbers for Herefordshire are yet to be finalised but are likely to be around 50 in total. Installations will begin in 2024/25 and are expected to be completed in 2025/26.

4) How many electric vehicle chargers do you plan to install in 2025? (If applicable)

A) In addition to the response above for Q3, we are part of a larger consortium of local authorities preparing to procure more on-street chargers, and if successful we are expecting over 100 on-street chargers to be installed in the county with installations beginning in 2025. Final numbers are to be confirmed and installations are likely to take place over several years beginning in 25/26.
