As per the Council's website we are progressing a Safer Routes to School initiative in conjunction with partner consultants. The initiative entails reviewing travel plans of existing Hereford primary schools and seeking views from parents and carers about their journeys before a technical assessment is carried out of any proposed measures. Options can then be presented for decision by Councillors. This project is underway and we aim to implement a range of improvements by 2026.

We have also commenced the 20mph project for Hereford City. We are currently collecting traffic speed and flow data at a number of sites within Hereford to help us identify what criteria should be taken into account when looking at roads where a reduced speed limit would benefit vehicle users, pedestrians and residents. We can then present this draft criteria to Councillors for decision which will then allow us to determine if and where any roads should be considered for a future 20mph limit. As with any speed limit change, it is important to note that the implementation of any future 20mph limits will require the Council to advertise Traffic Regulation Orders which is a statutory process that any person can submit a representation in response to, which we are then required to take into account when making any decision.
