School meals

Case reference FOI2022/01132

Published 17 August 2022

Request

I know that it has previously been reported that school caterers have had to cut portion sizes and consider changing menus in order to provide free school meals, because of increasing costs - due to inflation - combined with funding increases that don't mirror this inflation

If your LA provides LA maintained schools with catering services, then in the past twelve months, have they had to:

1) Decrease portion sizes for Free school meals?

2) Raise the prices of non-FSM meals

3) Have you had to top-up the funding for free school meals from other areas of your budget?

Response

Herefordshire Council does not provide maintained schools with catering services and therefore the council does not hold this information. The information may be held by the schools themselves, who are public authorities in their own right under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. A list of schools in Herefordshire, with links to further information including their contact details, is available on the council's website https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/education-and-learning/schools/directory
