Play Area next to The Child Development Centre, HR2 7RL (to the rear of Boycott Road, Hereford) The Play Area was owned and managed as a Play Area by Herefordshire Council until 2002. Local adults, now in their 60s, remember playing there as children. I am trying to find out for how long, prior to 2002, the local authority owned and managed the Play Area and Public Open Space.
1. Does the Local Authority have any records, documents, maps etc. to show that it owned and managed the Play Area in the 1990s? (please provide evidence of 2 documents to show this).
2.Does the Local Authority have any records, documents, maps etc. to show that it owned and managed the Play Area in the 1980s? (please provide evidence of 2 documents , if available, to show this).
3.Does the Local Authority have any records, documents, maps etc. to show that it owned and managed the Play Area in the 1970s? (please provide evidence of 2 documents, if available, to show this).
4.Does the Local Authority have any records, documents, maps etc. to show that it owned and managed the Play Area in the 1960s? (please provide evidence of 2 documents, if available, to show this).
5. Does the Local Authority have any records, documents, maps etc. to show that it owned and managed the Play Area in the 1950s or earlier? (please provide evidence any documents, if available, to show this). As I am trying to find out how far back historically the local authority owned and managed the play area, if there is a choice of documents/ evidence, then from as early in each decade as is available would be very helpful.
Response
A: I have made enquiries with all relevant service areas but they have advised that there is no data available for the timeframes requested. The only comprehensive property ownership source held is the 1910 valuation register, and the land doesn’t seem to have been owned by the council then. Our teams have checked various catalogues and indexes without success. There’s a chance that if the site was managed by Herefordshire County Council there might be a reference in the minutes and you would be welcome to contact the Herefordshire Archive and Resource Centre (HARC) to arrange a visit to consult them, but we cannot guarantee anything would be held. The records of Hereford and Worcester are held at Worcestershire Archives.
