Concerns over impact of inflation on quality of school food

Case reference FOI2022/00863

Published 2 August 2022

Request

Q1. Please could you tell me whether the authority has raised any concerns with central government about the impact of inflation on the quality of school food in the last six months.

Response

A1. We hold fortnightly meetings with the DfE and this issue has been raised informally at one of those meetings. We also plan a consultation with our schools to gauge the extent of the problem. At present we are not aware of any significant impact on food quality. In Herefordshire we have maintained the holiday food voucher scheme that we started during the pandemic.
