In the last financial year (2022/23), how many incidents did your authority record where traffic wardens - otherwise known as Civil Enforcement Officers - were assaulted by members of the public while carrying out council duties? Please give a brief description of the circumstances of each recorded incident.

In the last financial year (2022/23), how many incidents did your authority record where traffic wardens - otherwise known as Civil Enforcement Officers - were assaulted by members of the public while carrying out council duties?

In the 2022/23 financial year there were 6 physical assaults and 11 verbal assaults recorded where Civil Enforcement Officers (CEO) were assaulted by members of the public whilst carrying out council duties.

Please give a brief description of the circumstances of each recorded incident.

A member of the public physically pushed a CEO when they realised they were issuing a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

CEO hit when issuing a PCN.

An object was thrown at a CEO hitting them on the head.

A CEO was grabbed by the wrist while speaking to another member of the public.

A vehicle was driven at a CEO three times as they attempted to issue a PCN (there was no injury)

CEO was shoved.

Verbal assaults included verbal abuse (shouting and swearing), threats of assault & physical harm and hate speech.
